Experiments for the past week

Fast and to the point. Here are the kitchen experiments this past week!!!
Delicious....
- Baked salmon topped with a wasabi mayo-like glaze, lemon slices, and lots of herbs.
- Chicken fajita taco salad, served in a crispy oven-baked tortilla basket.
- Greek salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, black olives, purple onions, tossed in homemade
  herbed lemon vinagrette)
- Wantons, wantons and more wantons
- Hot pot with a selection of chinese bok choy, tilapia, shrimp, chicken marinated in teriyaki sauce, in a spicy and tangy broth.

And this week, my main experiment would be to whip up some good creamy ginger dressing for salad to go with unagi sushi roll.....
Make also go Southern again with red beans and rice OR beans and cornbread.
Then, I am also thinking Italian -- perhaps some chicken breast, with pasta and marinara sauce, and some roasted vegetables.
And ... I am gonna roast a hen, with a lemon-herb butter, served with some red potatoes and what nots ....

Summer trip #1

and it was off to Baton Rouge.
I had so much fun and did so many different things in a span of such a short time.
Day One:
Awesome drive around the city.
First pit stop was the India's Restaurant for some yummlicious Indian food. I was stuffed with dosai, chicken curry, lentils, briyani, gulab jamun, kheer ..... and the list goes on and on and on ... It was delightfully delicious!

Next stop, Rural Life Museum.
It was quite an interesting place. Very rural, very HOT! Yeah.
We headed in here, thinking we would get some wonderful respite from the blazing heat in BR, but nope. It had no AC at all!
So, we wandered around the building filled with vehicles -- I mean .... horse carriages hauling coffins, old-style operating chair (?), some peanut stand, tools they used back in those days (and still used in India according to my friend), and branding tools to brand slaves.
What was interesting (but still HOT) was the peuso-plantation/slave quarters set up outside. From there, I saw a grist mill, how slaves lived in little huts, their 'kitchen' and their little classroom. It was really interesting, and much more enjoyable if the temperature that day wasn't a soaring triple-digits!

And ... off we went to the Mall of Louisiana.
Just your typical mall, but far more hot chicks than Pecanland Mall in Monroe!
So, Indian guy friend and I just got a huge iced coke, sat down and ogle at girls ... :)

Then, after a slight cool down, we headed to an Indian grocery store and stocked up on Indian spices !!!!
Grocery stores always make me HAPPY! I felt right at home, and somehow, felt a little hungry already.
I can't wait to get home to Ruston to cook up some curry, or I guess, we can always head back to that Indian restaurant for more!

We then drove to the river front and walked around. Saw the old state capitol, an art museum housed in an old train depot by the river. We sat in the museum auditorium, listening to 5 different New Orleans artists talked about their work, and how Katrina had affected their work. It was really interesting! Then ... we left and headed to the balloon field where the mass ascension was scheduled at 6:30 p.m.

The balloon show was the biggey of my trip. Despite the mercury rising temperature, I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
As the balloon floats up into the air, it took a little piece of my heart with it. Ahhhh ... I love balloons. These huge blops of vibrant colors up in the almost clear blue sky --- the sight was absolutely breath-taking.

Then, we headed to CAMD to look for Keith ... went back to the hotel, took a shower and rested before Brijesh and I headed out again to hunt for dinner! :)

Day Two:
Lunch was delicious at P.F. Chang's and then we went to the Baton Rouge zoo and it was nice -- not as fantastic as my Singapore Zoo, but the elephant in BR tickled me pink!

Day Three and Four:
With my travelling companion gone and Keith off to work on his research at CAMD, i really just stayed in the room, away from the heat and watch lots of TV, read my book that i brought along and just sleep! It was NICE!!!!!
The last day (Day #4), Keith and I had a huge breakfast together, then he went back to work on his research. I stayed in the room, packing and getting ready for check-out. When Keith got back, we drove around LSU campus, and the city, and stopped by this place called Drunken Shrimp for lunch. Great sushi!!!!!!!!!!! Yummy.
Headed off to St. Francisville to take pictures and then to Natchez where we stopped for dinner at this Mexican restaurant called El Potro off U.S. 61. It was GOOD!!!! Really good. I had fajita taco salad, and keith had some combi plate. We both thought the fajita steak off the next table looked amazing delicious!!!! :)
YUMMMY

and then ... back to Ruston.
It feels nice to be home.
Really nice.

(Check out some pictures!!!)

I just can't

physically, mentally pysch my self to prep for my two finals.
I slept early ... and woke up late, and yet .... anxiety failed to make me worry enough to care.
I am at the brim of the glass. Cream of the corp... not too sure ... but spillage is guaranteed if there is ONE more drop of information.

Last Monday Blues for this summer

I dont usually have Monday blues. Actually, I do enjoy my Mondays a lot.
Nevertheless, this will be the last Blue Blue Monday for Summer '07.
Starting my Monday just like every day ... only that I mowed the front yard after my workout at the gym. Not the entire yard. Just a couple of rows and the lawnmower went out of gas. It ain't a breeze pushing the lawnmower. It was .. work out #2.
Oh well... 4 more school days to go!

Excited still

This is the last weekend where I will be scrambling to complete the assignments, the treatment protocols, the projects, the studying!
I am excited just thinking about the pending road trip ...
I had initially wanted to take a friend along with me, but, I think I am just gonna do it myself. Enjoy some ME time. :)
Still excited over the potential baby ... still excited that I have found a name for IT.
I can't wait.

Excitement in the Air

Yeap. I have been feeling excited for the past week. Very excited. Here's why.

1) 5 more summer school days
2) Having lunch date with Ms. Miller to enjoy the sweet success this week.
3) Having a dinner party today with a good friend, a friend who seems to be like a little brother to me, and a very funny comedic dude..
4) The back yard is full of birds -- humming birds, caroline wrens, chickedees, tufttit titmice.
5) I got names for my eggs and potential daughter/son to be
6) Excited today because I already have a great start!

I love my life today!
